I first realized I wanted to become a Teacher while working as a Para Professional in a classroom for students with Autism. As a life-long learner, the field of education and special education in particular, has a tight hold on my interest. The students are so unique and fun to work with; even a small gain can be a milestone. As I am faced with real challenges on a daily basis I am grateful to have found my true calling. I know I am helping others by practicing this profession, but they are helping me learn about myself and the world around me every step of the way in return. Helping students learn is one of the most rewarding things I have found in this life. I am happy, grateful and proud to be called Teacher.
Education is growth.
Education is not preparation for life;
education is life itself."
John Dewey
I believe that all children can and should learn. In my classroom I will see my students as people first and put any disabilities second. Along with this philosophy you will find that my classroom organization will be flexible and based on need, contributing to a positive classroom climate that is open to change. Learning focus will consider students prior knowledge and connect this to the curriculum they need to learn. Differentiated instructional strategies will match student learning styles. Students will be part of a learning community and take part in both individual and group activities which will honor the classroom community, the outside community, and the cultures of the students.
I enjoy cooking, reading, decorating, doing yoga, learning new things and shopping! I love spending time with friends and family and taking walks with my husband and our dog Bailey.
